SOME TIPS AND TRICKS ON HOW TO USE LAYERS (done in paintshop pro 7)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[b]first step create a new layer because i'm going to show how to do a basic colour change on the bumper
while using the second layer select the area that is the bumper
pick the colour you want to colour the bumper and fill the selection with that area
now what i am doing is selecting the layer blending method i have chosen soft light on this occasion as it creates the effect that i want on this occasion but feel free to play about and find the one that suites the effect that you are looking for
the next step is to set the transparancy so that the bumper looks more realistic
now we are going to create a light mask, so create a new layer and select the area that you want to make the mask
now paint the light mask using different tones to create a more realistic effect
now add a layer with what u want your reflection to look like
now make it the same size and shape
set the blend mode to hard light and lower the opacity
darken the edges around the light where it touches the mask using the line/pen tool (i forgot to do under the light mask make sure u dont) and then slightly lower the opacity this should also be done on a new layer
check the image once u have zoomed out i found that the light mask reflections needed even less opacity so i changed it to make the realism better
well i hope this helps explain some of the things that layers do and how to use them.
the way to think of layers is to think of how the old over head projectors used to work using the accetate sheets which were see through u can add one on top of another until u create the final picture
