What should I use?

So, I am a PDN (Paint.NET) chopper, started out with MS Paint

And I'm pretty good, given what PDN has. (Not much)
So here's the problem. I'm not gonna drop for Adobe or REAL (gasp) photoshop.
I heard that GIMP is good, but does anyone know any good, free photoshop systems?

gimp is free

If you cant afford Photoshop try gimp. we have many gimp users here.

I tried it once b4 I started PDN and nearly killed myself.
